Jordan Standard JS 9:2025 is the official reference for food labeling on packaged foods in Jordan. It was issued to replace previous editions and aligns with the latest recommendations from Codex Alimentarius and EU 1169/2011.
Mandatory information: product name, ingredient list in descending order by weight, net weight, manufacturer/importer name and address, country of origin, production and expiry dates, batch/lot number, storage conditions, and use instructions where applicable.
Language: labels must be in clear, primary Arabic; other languages may be added. Minimum x-height 1.2 mm, dropping to 0.9 mm for small packages (< 80 cm²).
Allergens: 14 allergens must be highlighted in bold or a distinct style within the ingredient list, including gluten, milk, eggs, peanuts, fish, crustaceans, soy, and tree nuts.
Nutrition facts: now mandatory for most packaged products. Includes energy (kcal/kJ), fat, saturated fat, carbohydrates, sugars, protein, and salt — per 100 g or 100 ml.
Health & nutrition claims: must be backed by approved scientific evidence. Misleading claims such as "100% natural" or "preservative-free" are only allowed under specific conditions.
